She's like my sister...

I was never the teenager that had a lot of friends.  When I was in high school, my "group" consisted of two people who were completely different than I was and that is it.  Actually, I was the girl who got made fun of.  Oh yeah, bullied beyond belief.  That got so bad that I wouldn't want to go to school.  I wanted to stay home in bed all day and sulk about how terrible I was.  Of course, that was not an option and I had to find comfort somewhere, so I did turn to the internet.

The year was 2001 and I had found a message board for the group 'N Sync, who I was a huge fan of, so I decided to join and see what it was all about.  To make a very long story short, I had met someone who introduced me to a friend of hers... Her friend's name was Lauren.  We started talking and hit it off right away.  About a week later we had spoken on the phone and every day and every night we would talk to each other VIA phone or internet. (or even both at the same time!)  Lauren and I quickly became best friends, the kind of friend that I had never had before this.  She was someone that I could vent to, I could go to for guy advice, someone who was just like me in some ways but completely different too.  Finally, I had someone I could lean on and confide in.

October of 2001 brought Lauren and myself wanting to get together.  I had been figure skating at that time and decided to ask Lauren to meet me at the skating rink.  The problem was, she had to get her mother to drive her. (Since we were 14 and 15, respectively...)  I had not lied to my mom about the situation, I just withheld the information from her that Lauren was coming.  (Of course, that's not how she recounts it, but it's the truth!)  -- But I digress -- Finally, after my skating session, Lauren got to the rink with her mother and we spent a very long time talking to each other and having just as much fun in person as we did online and on the phone.  Our mothers also had a great conversation and got to know each other better.

After that Lauren and I saw each other twice a year.  She lived two hours from us, so it was impossible for us to get together more often, but we wanted to.  Once I went to college, since I went to college in Philadelphia, Lauren and I became even closer.  At that point, I lived only 15-20 minutes from her house, so I would go there often.  Honestly, I think I was at her house more than I was in my dorm room.  Her mother quickly became more like a mother to me than I realized in the years prior.

I owe a hell of a lot to Lauren.  She is someone who can drive me crazy but keep me sane at the same time.  She is someone who I look up to, even though she's younger than me.  She's someone who I can call with the stupidest problem, and she will make me laugh.  She is someone that even though we don't talk too much anymore, once we do call each other, it's like we never stopped talking.  She is someone that taught me the real meaning of friendship, and was it means to have someone that knows you better than you know yourself. And she definitely does.  She is more like my sister than my own sister is and we will always be best friends.

Thank you Laur, for 11 years of EVERYTHING!!

Getting To Know You by MannLand5... Sun 08/29/2010

1. If you accidently knick a car in a parking lot..Do you leave a note or do you get the heck out of there?

I've actually never done this, but if I ever accidentally tapped or slightly hit a car in a parking lot and I saw that it didn't leave any mark, I would just get the heck out of there.  IMO, there is no need to leave a note unless their is damage and the person is nowhere to be found.  I have, however, accidentally opened my door too wide and it hit into the car next to me.  In that case, I don't say anything because I see people do it all the time.  I don't think there is etiquette for that!  Usually, it's because the dumbass next to you pulled in the spot too far to one side. :D

2. Love your body or plastic surgery?

If I had the money (or won the lottery) I would get lipo, tummy tuck, breast augmentation and implants.  Yes, I know... I am fairly happy with myself but those things are the only things I struggle with!!  (I don't have the money and probably won't ever win the lottery, so my body is safe!)

3. What about your favorite blog(s) continues to drive you back?

Content, design, the friendliness of the blogger.  Basically, if I like a blog the design should catch my eye and the content should be well written as well as diverse.  Sure I love to read about adorable kids doing adorable things, who doesn't? Hell, I post about my kids A LOT on my blog, but I feel that a good blog has a mix of personal and editorial content. :)

4. What percent of your blog is BS just to make your life seem more interesting than it really is?

Absolutely none of it.  Well, maybe the part about me being super woman, super mom and wearing my underwear on the outside of my tights... Yes folks, I am 100% human and am NOT infallible... *gasp!*

5. If you had to give up one type of meat for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Pork...hands down.

6. How often to you eat out?

Once a week.  My friend and I, usually on Tuesday nights, go out to eat somewhere cheap.  We don't like to spend too much money on food.  I actually love to go out to eat.  When I eat home it's the same old stuff that we always have. lol I like diversity.

7. Skinny jeans or boot cut jeans?

Skinny cut.  They make my legs look longer.

8. If you caught your spouse cheating would you forgive, divorce, or plan your kill?

Plan my kill.  Ha!!  There is NO excuse for cheating.  I've forgiven a cheater before (my ex fiance) and it's really not worth it.  You just live in fear that they will do that again and that is absolutely NO way to live.  Especially if you love someone.  You need to trust them.

Before I was a mom...

Mama's Losin' It

Before I was a mom I was very irresponsible and selfish.  My own mother and I never got along, and I now realize that was because I was a disrespectful little bitch person as a teenager.  I wanted what I wanted and if I didn't get it...watch out! I never understood why she was so overprotective of me and swore that she was just doing it because she hated me.  I felt uncool and actually was uncool.  I never fit in anywhere or with anyone, but I tried like hell.  I would have done absolutely anything to try to fit in, and I probably did.

I would spend money frivolously like I could just pick more off of the big money tree.  I spent on my credit cards like there was an endless flow of money at the other end.  Being at the mall was dangerous for me because I would end up leaving with more than I could actually afford.  Shopping has always been my downfall.....  Just as drugs or alcohol are terrible addictions; mine was shopping.  I never thought of the consequences of my actions and never thought of anyone but myself.  (Ok, maybe sometimes I did...)

Before I was a mom I had a lot of time to perfect my craft.  I was an artist and I would stay up for hours working on one painting.  When I started a painting, getting up to go to the bathroom, get something to eat, getting something to drink, getting up to walk around, those were all things that weren't on my mind.  Once I was in "the zone", unless someone reminded me I should get up and eat or walk around, I wouldn't.  I was a perfectionist and I had to just finish "a little bit more" before I finally got up.  I had a great concentration span and would sit there until the wee hours of the morning to try to finish or perfect my piece.
Going to the gym was important to me.  I would get up early and get to the gym before I did anything else.  If I couldn't get to the gym, I'd walk around town to get where I had to go.  Well, I also didn't have a car.  On foot was the only way I could have gotten to most places!  I didn't complain about walking and actually loved it.  Exercise made me feel renewed and refreshed.

Before I was a mom I'd lie to my mom continuously.  I would go out with guys and tell her I was elsewhere.  I knew that she would get mad at me or wouldn't let me go if I told her where I was really going.  I never cared that she had no idea where I really was and never answered any of her continuous calls when I wasn't home on time.  I always wondered why she didn't trust me and thought I was doing everything right.

I never realized how incomplete my life was before I was a mom.  I thought I could do anything and I probably could have.  I thought everything was perfect when I was going out with friends and guys, disrespecting my mom, lying to her and talking about her behind her back.  I thought shopping WAS my life and thought spending money was something everyone did the same way that I did.  I was completely wrong.

It's amazing how having a baby can change your life in an instant.  The second I found out I was pregnant with DD1, it was like a polar opposite within a few minutes.  I instantly felt this responsibility and love for someone other than myself.  I felt this immense maturity come over me and realized that my life was now for someone else.  It's so true... I live for my children.  They are my reason for life.  I will do anything for them, and I do.

Shopping is so different now.  Of course, I do buy things for myself, and I am still a shopping addict, except I'm a shopping addict for my children and I do make wiser choices. (Though difficult!)  I would rather buy something for my girls than for myself.  If it's a choice between the both, I would always put mine back and choose theirs.  That is something that I never thought I would do, if you had asked me as a teenager.

Being a mom changes everything and it changes everything for the better.  All of the good times outweigh the struggles and complications.  Once you see your kids' smiles, it's all worth it. :)

Life as a domestic queen..... lol

I CAN COOK! :)  I really wanted to do something different tonight.  Microwavable diet foods just get so lame after having them every single day for lunch and dinner, so I planned on making a nutrisystem friendly pizza.  It took about 30 minutes to make (less time than delivery!) and it was delicious, healthy and had that homemade taste.  (And only 290 cals for two slices!! Definitely delicious!  The kids even ate it with no problem along with my mom; who hates healthy food!  You can find the recipe here on my weight loss blog. It's definitely a MUST MAKE recipe. :)

Today was a pretty laid back day.  I wanted to do the Tackle It Tuesday and had the girls room a great topic for that, but I just didn't have the time to do it.  I had to get my printer cartridge filled for printing more coupons, (lol) I had to grocery shop and clean the living room about 50 times. LOL  Besides which, Olivia was sick this afternoon.  She is so congested she can't really breathe through her nose.  I suspect it might be allergies.  She is feeling better now, thank God... Nose is still running like a little faucet.

Since I have been eating better today and yesterday, I've fully recovered from Easter. Ha!  I don't have that terrible stomach pain that I had Sunday night and most of yesterday.  I guess from eating less maybe my stomach shrunk a little.  I feel full after just a little bit of food and I really pushed myself on Easter Sunday...  At least I feel better right now.  I'm going to start walking in the afternoon tomorrow.  I'll walk the kids to the park that's about 30 blocks away, have them play for a little bit, and I'll walk back with them.  It's gonna be nice tomorrow.  When it starts to get too warm, that's when I'll go to the gym instead. :)  I'm excited to start exercising.  I'm sure pushing a double stroller will be some resistance as well! lol

How about a little "meme" for today?  This is That's My Answer.

Have you ever been to a professional sporting event?  Just figure skating events.  My mom and I used to go to the Campbell Soup figure skating exhibition every single year when it came to East Rutherford.  I haven't been to anything else because I have never been into sports.  Figure Skating is the only thing that I absolutely love without a doubt.

Have you ever been pulled over by the police? Did you get a ticket?  I got pulled over a few weeks ago.  I was leaving NYC and was about to go through the Holland Tunnel.  I was stopped and pulled over because of my headlight.  My left headlight was out for the longest time and this is the ONLY time I got pulled over.  I never got a ticket, though.  He told me just to get my headlight changed as soon as possible.

What do you put in your mashed potatoes?  I usually used boxed mashed potatoes.  I don't put anything in it other than what I have to. (Milk? Sour cream? Margarine?)  I haven't made them in so long since I've been on a diet...  Now I really want them, thanks. lol

Do you know where your great, great, great grandparents lived? Białystok Poland.  My great grandparents immigrated before my grandmother was born.  In fact, when my grandmother was little, she didn't speak a word of English.  She just spoke Polish.

Oh, and I wanted to tell something hilarious... When we were watching Dancing With The Stars tonight, my daughter asked why "Buzz Lightbeer" wasn't wearing his space suit -- Is that related to Heineken or Budwiser? (She was talking about Buzz Aldrin!)

Five Question Friday - 04/02/10

1. Do you sing out loud in the car when you're driving? Yes, I most definitely do!  That's probably the only time I will ever sing in public. (Even though I have been told that I have a great voice.) I'm a very shy person!  If someone else is in the car with me, I'll just hum along to the music or mouth the words. Well, unless it's just my kids.  I sing, dance and act crazy around them.  They actually compliment me on my singing! My 4 year old thinks I should be a rockstar.  This is why I love kids! LOL

2. What would you never be caught doing? I would never be caught going out somewhere without makeup or doing my hair!!  When I was younger I had no problem doing any of this.  I don't know why it's such an issue now!  I'm so concerned with the way I look and I want to look perfect at all times.  Of course, this bothers my mom to no end, but she'll have to deal with my beauty obsession.

3. Will you go #2 in a public restroom?  NO!! Not unless it is an emergency and I can't get home.  Hell, I can't even do #1 in a public restroom.  I seriously have public bathroom phobia.  I just can hardly ever go in them unless I absolutely have to.  It has been like this all my life.

4. Have you ever broken a bone?  I have had many injuries requiring me to wear a cast, but only once broke a bone.  I broke my ankle during a figure skating exhibition when I was 16.  I used to be a locally competitive figure skater.  Our local skating club was doing an exhibition and I was with my synchro team.  I don't even remember what happened, I really didn't fall, my skate just got a little tangled in with a new girl who really had NO idea what she was doing and it just turned the wrong way.  I finished the exhibition and had no idea it was even broken.  It hurt, but I said I could deal with it.  When I went to take my skate off, it started to swell.  So my mom tied my skate back up, I put my blade protectors on my skates and I went to the ER in my figure skates.  Turns out it was broken and I had to have a cast and crutches.  I hated those things.

5. Do you prefer cooking or baking?  I love doing both.  Unfortunately, time restraints with life have forced me to put that on the back burner usually.. Now I am more inclined to throw something in the microwave than actually cook.  I want to make a promise for that to change.

Get To Know Me Sunday

Get To Know Me Sunday by Mannland5

1. Why did you start blogging? I started blogging in 1999 because it was the thing to do online.  I was a member of so many 'teen' message boards and everyone was blogging and using their own domains.  My first domain was cybergrrl.net and my mom registered and purchased it for me.  I've been blogging ever since.  Except with a short haitus when I was in college from 2003-2004.  Though my blogs have really changed meaning over the years.  While I used to blog because it was cool, now I blog because I feel that if any of my mistakes or tips change someone's life...it was a huge accomplishment for me.

2. Who is the one blog friend that you would want to meet most in "real life"? Actually, I don't have any blog friends.  I really would love to make some! If anyone wants to get to know me on a personal level, feel free to e-mail me!

3. Why are you always concerned with losing that "extra 10 pounds" when chances are your husband/boyfriend/friends tell you that you look just fine the way you are? #1.  I know that I need to lose weight.  I know that if I don't lose the weight, I wont be healthy for my kids.  My worst fear was getting closer...only within 50lbs away.  I knew I had to change my life, even though people told me I looked beautiful.  I am on that road to changing my life now. :)

4. What's the one thing you wish guys could understand about you? Whenever I meet a guy who might like me, I try to be myself without mentioning my kids at first.  Unfortunately, whenever you bring up that you have kids, that man bolts for the nearest door.  It discourages me because I don't know how I am ever supposed to find anyone... I feel like no one wants someone with kids.  No matter how good of a person they are or how great their heart is... I wish guys could understand that I am a good person with a loving heart.  I have a great personality and I deserve to be happy... I wish that someone somewhere will understand that someday.

5. Tattoos. How many do you have and how many are visible when you wear your "everyday" clothes? I don't have any, but I would love to have one someday! :)

6. What was the best year of your life and why? 2004.  I was with my ex- fiance, I was independent and living away at college.  I had independence, freedom and for the first time, I felt like I fit in somewhere.  My ex fiance made me feel like I was something special (at that time) and I felt invincible.  It was a great year and one that I will never forget.  As much as it hurts when I think about my ex-fiance and as much anger as it brings me, it was still the best year of my life.

7. Name three things you would do if you were a man for one day. I have no idea! lol

8.What's your alcoholic drink of choice that usually raises a few eyebrows? Nothing, really.  I don't drink too often, but when I go out somewhere it's either a beer, long island iced tea, a tropical-ish drink or a margarita. :)

Get To Know Me Saturday

(Even though I'm posting this on Sunday morning!) I like to post things like this every so often so new and current followers can see more of the person behind the blog. :)

1. Outside of your romantic life, do you currently have a best friend? I don't even have a romantic life right now! LOL Yes, I do have a best friend.  Actually, I have 3.  Lauren has been my longest best friend and she is more like a sister to me.  I believe she may know me better than I know myself. :)  She is also my hero... I love her to death and always will.

2. Regarding your future, what is the best thing you could hope for?
The best thing I can hope for, is that I will someday find someone who loves me and my children.  I do want to get married and I know it will happen.  It's just a matter of finding that person who is great for me and great for my children.

3. Have you ever helped out a friend with basic needs, like rent or food? If yes. what did you do?
I have lent money to friends before for food and for things they may not have been able to afford when we were together.  Mostly in NYC when they needed a few bucks.  I'm a very giving person and if a friend really needs something and I have it, I will always help out!

4. If they re-instituted the draft (for both genders and your were of age) would you go, or would find some way out of it?
I would not. No.  It frightens me and gives me serious anxiety just thinking about it!

5. Tell us one thing you wish you hadn't let yourself do.
There are a lot of things I wish I hadn't let myself do.  I have learned that there is no use in regretting anything of the past.  If you regret things that happened, and you dwell on them, it will really encase your mind and you'll waste plenty of valuable time.  Just look forward and learn from the past.

6. Tell us about the last time you bragged.
I don't even remember the last time I bragged... I don't do it often.

7. What area are you wisest in?
Art, music, photography and blogging. :)

8. Tell us about something that happened that at the time made you "full of yourself".
I'm not sure I have ever been full of myself.  I don't believe that I have ever been that confident in myself. For me, confidence comes very rarely.  When it does come, I feel completely great, but would never feel like I was "full of myself"!!

9. Has there ever been a time that you wanted to try something in the bedroom, but were afraid to ask?
I don't believe so!

Do you like staples?  The store or the item?  I'm guessing you DONT mean the store since it's not capitalized! LOL  Although, I do love both.  I love the store and the staples in the stapler.

Do you decorate your home for Easter?  Somewhat.  Occasionally we may have pastel colored lights outside or bunnies on the windows.  Inside we have *some* bunny decor...

How much of your actual everyday life do you blog about?  99% of it.  I leave out some details, but mostly I blog everything.  (I also try to curb my language in blogs!)

Five Question Friday

Don't forget the Friday Follow Giveaway we're running! Winner will be drawn on Sunday at NOON!

1. Did you pass your driver's test on the first try?  No way!  I actually felt very confident going to the DMV on the day of my test.  I really did think I was going to pass!  Unfortunately, where I took the test, the "stop signs" were so short that I could barely see some of them over the hood of the car. (And I was driving a Chrystler Plymouth...not a big car at all!)  It happened that I did EVERYTHING ELSE PERFECTLY, my parallel parking, my K-Turning, everything... But I had rolled a little past a faux short stop sign when I didn't see it until it was too late.  That's why I failed my test.  My mom and I did complain, however.  I remember hearing that you had to have 3 errors in order to fail and I only had one... But they said that was a huge error because it could kill someone in an intersection.  Justified... It still made me cry for days when I was 16! lol  I did pass the second time.  I think it was because my uncle (who is a RC priest) drove me in his blacks with his collar. LOL I think it put the fear of God in the tester.

2. What is your most embarrassing moment? Oh my God. Being myself, I have quite a few.  Most include being in elementary school and being embarrassed by bullies who either put a "kick me" sign on my back, (I'm serious...you DON'T only see that in movies...) or bullies who tied my shoe to the chair, (this really happened too) or just being verbally abused by bullies in the cafeteria -- so much so that I ended up skipping lunch for the rest of the year (in high school) and sat in the library. Even if I was hungry.  My entire school life until college was a huge embarrassment.

3. What TV show would you like to be on- Oprah, Biggest Loser, or What Not to Wear? I would love to be on What Not to Wear! LOL  I don't know why.  I just would love to see what they would say about my wardrobe and style.  If I were a celebrity, I'd want to be on Oprah.  Hell, if you're on Oprah, you've made it big!  Or maybe I'd want to be on her show being surprised by Hanson... (Hey, yes, I'm a Hanson fan, don't make fun of me!)

4. Would you ever get plastic surgery and what kind? Yes.  I would get lipo and a tummy tuck.  Actually, I know for a fact that I'm going to need lipo and a tummy tuck after I lose all of the weight I want to lose.  I've had two kids... I doubt my skin has ANY elasticity. LOL  I'd also want a breast augmentation.

5. What are your favorite jeans to wear?  I actually don't own them anymore, sadly.  I had gotten them from Delias in 2000  They were flares that had butterflies and glitter on one leg.  The back also had butterflies on them. I remember them SO vividly because I wore those things into the ground.  I wore those things for 4 years because they were my favorite jeans.  I actually had one small coffee stain on the thigh because I could never get it out, but wore those things anyway.  You can't find them anymore and I have no idea what happened to them.  My mom probably threw them out because the bottoms were so frayed from dragging on the ground!

Get to know me: Monday

Going to be posting a normal blog post later, but for now I'll leave you all with this! :)

What is your favorite breakfast cereal?  I love Smacks, Reeces Puffs and Coco Krispies, and Frosted Mini Wheats, but lately since I am on a diet I have been eating Kashi cereal and actually LOVE it!!  If you get the right kind (Sunshine, Blueberry Clusters, etc...) it can taste like you're eating high sugar cereal.  I love to eat healthy and not concentrate too much on the fact that I am eating healthy foods.

How many pieces of fruit do you eat a day? (On average)  Since I have been on a diet, I've been eating more than usual.  I usually eat fruit three times a day between meals.  Usually when I feel like I'm starving and need to binge eat.  I just get some fruit.

Have you ever been in an earthquake?  I don't know if this would count, but when I was little there was a very small tremor around here.  I must have been 5 or 6?  Maybe even 4.  I remember sleeping in the living room on the floor with my mom.  I live in New Jersey where there are absolutely NO earthquakes or tornadoes, so I feel safe. lol

What is the thing you disagree most about as a family?  I live in a very opinionated family.  Especially when it comes to equal rights for homosexuals and heterosexuals.  I strongly believe that homosexuals should have the same right to get married.  Gays are not animals and they are no different than any of us.  I feel strongly like some people treat them that way.  I have always believed that all men really are created equal.  That was such a strong and popular line in the Declaration of Independance.  Why isn't it respected today?  My family and I fight about that constantly because they do not believe that gays should have the same rights as straight men and woman in the US.  I feel that they are wrong, and it sometimes causes disagreements.

I'm a sucker for advertising.

I can definitely safely say that I am completely a sucker for advertising.  Seriously, make something look interesting, slap a clever logo on it with great packaging...I'll probably buy it or want to buy it.  That is exactly what happened today at Bed, Bath and Beyond.  I went there for a replacement pillow (for that story see the "death of a pillow" story.) and also wanted a new electronic tart warmer, jewelry organizer, desktop mirror, plastic stand up drawers and some other stuff for my room's organization.  Back to my story -- I am drawn to a clearance section like a moth to a flame.  That is exactly where I ended up!  I followed what seemed to be a big glowing red and yellow "Clearance" sign. (Ok, it wasn't really glowing.)  Four aisles full...I was in heaven!  I slowly walked up and down the clearance aisles throwing a few interesting things in my cart (a root beer making kit, thought it would be interesting for my kids.  A discount tart warmer, some candles and tarts, salt and pepper shakers, etc...)  until I came upon this pink packaging that just drew me in.  Curl-Ease: The Towel For Girls with Curls it was called.  I started reading the packaging and read that it was supposed to de-frizz your hair and keep it's natural curl shape.  That's exactly what I need since my curly hair turns into an afro unless I flat iron it.  The packaging was interesting, the tag line was catchy and the product description really screamed: LEGIT!! LOL  So I decided to pay the $14.99 and see if it would be.  Actually, I have yet to try it so I can't give you a proper review, but I wanted to say that I will try it tonight and update everyone immediately. lol :) You can visit it's official site if you're interested and like clever advertising too. :D

-  What is your least favorite part of the morning? When I have to wake up.  :)  lol  I'm serious.  Once I actually get up I'm fine, but when I have to get up I'm a complete and total bitch. (Sometimes)

-  Is there generally any day of the week that you usually sleep later than normal? If so, which day, and how often actually do you get to sleep in late?  Any day that I'm not busy I get to sleep in.  My kids both sleep pretty late...to 12-1pm.  I'm lucky in that aspect!  I usually sleep in until 10 and have 2 hours to get things done before they wake up. It works out pretty well!

-  When the alarm clock first goes off, do you immediately get up, or do you take advantage of the snooze button?  I really put the snooze button to use.  Maybe about 5 times until I wake up. LOL That's why I always set the alarm for an hour-half hour before I actually have to be up.

-  Do you sleep with the television on or off?  Off, usually.  Unless I fall asleep when I'm watching something.

-  What's the part of your morning you least look forward to everyday?  I don't look forward to anything about mornings!
